Events in Reykjavik
There are many events taking place in Copenhagen all around the year. Most of the very best offerings happen throughout the summer, and since the country is rather compact with its size, traveling for an hour or two can take you to another city as well as a completely new atmosphere. Here you can find a few of the most recommended events.
Roskilde festival (July)
Some 110 000 visitors are attracted by Roskilde Festival every year, and the chance is high that more on just a few of your favorite rock bands will be included in the line-up. Being one of the largest music festivals in Europe, music lovers from all around get together for the eight days full of fun. Roskilde itself is a pleasant student city 40 kilometers west from Copenhagen. It also has an interesting history with Vikings and royals.
Moesgaard Viking Moot Festival in Aarhus (July)
Another university town, Aarhus has a special offering: for those who have watched their most recently produced Scandinavian TV shows are probably fascinated by Vikings. This event offers activites such as archery, crafts or battling. Mind you; the event is not to be taken too seriously. Attending is completely safe!
Hans Christian Andersen Festival (August)
Have you read The Princess and the Pea, The Ugly Duckling, or the Little Mermaid? Although often sinister, Andersen's stories are still being read to children around the world. The city of Odense organizes more than 250 events full of fairy tales and workshops, concerts and parades. Don't miss out on this celebration aimed at the entire family.
Christmas markets (December)
From Christiania and Tivoli Gardens to Nyhavn harbor, Christmas markets are well spread out in Copenhagen throughout the entire month of December. The jolly mood is contagious and hard to avoid, so get ready for another level of "hygge" ! Everything from jewelry, crafts, woollen sweaters to mulled wine is being sold to stir up the cozy atmosphere.
