Things to do in Copenhagen

The city can be edgy or classy - and the way of looking at it is largely up for the visitor's preferences. Those visiting for food, drinks and second hand or fashion boutiques will always come across positive surprises. A new up and coming brunch place might be just around the corner, especially if you're on a mission around Nørrebro, where charming little shops can't let anyone down.

Tivoli Gardens

Among other places, the popular Tivoli Gardens are visited by 4.5 million people every year. It is the world's second oldest amusement park still operating up to this date, and an old-school roller coaster guarantees a proper vintage atmosphere. There are often open-air concerts and other events in the area.

The Little Mermaid Statue

The statue was sculptured and donated to the city in 1913 by Edvard Eriksen. The sculpture depicts a character from H.C Andersen's fairytale. Having lost her head multiple times and even being exploded out of her pedestal once, her glorious comebacks are already starting to be a regularly repeated routine. The Danes truly value their mermaid and keep returning her back on its rock.

Christiania

The self-proclaimed neighborhood Freetown Christiania certainly has a fascinating history, and like a piece of Amsterdam in the heart of Copenhagen, it can be considered as the most liberal place in Denmark. The place was established as a 'social experiment' by squatters and artists in the beginning of 1970's.

Christiania has been named as a utopian commune by many, and it has plenty of coffee corners, yoga studios, art galleries, its own theatre, street art - and even its own flag.

Food and Restaurants

Nordic food scene is at great vogue right now and Copenhagen's own subject of pride, Noma, has been nominated as one the world's best restaurants for multiple times. Nordic gastronomy is particularly involved in the current, global Scandimania, and it consists of simple, fresh food.

A new up and coming brunch place might be just around the corner, especially if you're on a mission around Nørrebro, where charming little shops and eateries won't let anyone down.

Basic meals have been rebranded into luxurious dishes containing fish, delicious herbs, berries and divine sauces. Do not miss out on the crowded but colourful Nyhavn harbour - the selection of restaurants there is everything but scarce, tailored for everyone's taste buds, and also Noma is located in the area.

Art & History

Ultimately, for art and history lovers Louisiana Museum of Modern Art 40km north of Copenhagen and 17th-century palace, Rosenburg Castle and SMK - The National Gallery of Denmark, are all worth paying a visit.
